The historic Sultan Park renamed and reopened as “Rasrani Bageecha” tonight.
The new park was inaugurated by HEP Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady along with 50 students from different schools, joined by the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr.Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Education Aishath Shiham and Political leaders of the government.
The historical ground which was the kings Palace was turned into a park in 1968 when Maldives ended the sultanate of Mohamed Farid Didi and became a republic, hence the park features a special area to show the history behind the park. The redevelopments and improved benefits in the park include a fountain, an Amphitheater for stage items, a green tunnel, a tree house named “rasrani view” and customized led swings.
According to the Housing Minister Dr.Mohamed Muizzu the park would be open from 6:00 a.m. till 12:00 a.m. on week days and from 2:00 p.m. till 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and would be freely accessible for all local citizens. In the opening ceremony, Minister thanked M.N.D.F for the re-development and maintenance of “Rasrani Bageechaa” within a short period of time. The colorful inauguration ceremony was finished with fireworks.
